Normal BMI – Ideal Weight

A normal BMI for adults is considered to range from 18.5-24.9. Body mass index has been a long-standing biometric tool to determine a patient’s quick picture of health, their weight compared to their height. A normal BMI is linked to having a fulfilled life and a complete life expectancy as your risk for disease and chronic illness is considered lower by health professionals.

Bringing your BMI within advisable limits (8.5-24.9)  helps by:

  1. preventing diabetes;
  2. if you already have diabetes then it improves your sugar levels and also helps to bring down the diabetes medication;
  3. preventing blood pressure;
  4. if you already have high blood pressure then it helps to better control your blood pressure and also to bring down blood pressure medication;
  5. preventing heart disease;
  6. preventing stroke;
  7. preventing certain types of cancer;
  8. preventing osteoarthritis (joint pains);
  9. normalizing cholesterol levels and normalizing deranged blood fat levels;
  10. increasing your life expectancy;
  11. making you look younger;
  12. improving your energy levels.

In keeping this ideal BMI, you should continue to eat healthy. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low red meat intake will help you keep your BMI score at this level. Also, in keeping this BMI classification, you should continue a regular workout regimen which will be instrumental in keeping your BMI score at this level for life.

Note that the BMI formula does not incorporate lean muscle mass into the equation. Thus, people who are very muscular may very well in fact be fit and healthy, but may also have a BMI score that labels them outside of the ideal BMI “normal” range.
